In the course of every day Curtin students and staff access a huge amount of information on the internet. The internet is an essential resource for all kinds of learning, teaching, research, and work, but it is not a free resource. All internet use translates as a cost to Curtin in the same way that using the internet through a private ISP has a cost at home.

There are materials available on the internet that are not normally required for the core business of the university. Accessing these materials may represent an unnecessary cost and an unnecessary network load.
